i wish i had not ordered black. ugly. but great shoe for cross training.

I ordered two pair of these shoes, one in white and one in black. Even though they are marked same size, i would estimate the black ones are at least a size smaller. I expect better quality control from New Balance. White shoes were fine.
Angela –
The only brand that gives me enough firm support for ankles and top of foot. I have nearly flat, flexible feet and bandy ankles from multiple sprains. The shoes actually feel stiff on top, which takes getting used to but which I need in order to walk. Not sure if I needed all the width, but I probably did. There is room for an orthotic in there too. The white color looks less like a “senior Q-tip shoe” than I expected; the black looked like a restaurant shoe so I didn’t try it.

I have been buying New Balance shoes for over 20 years. My size is vitually always 8.5 EE. I have a pair of this exact shoe in that size. The pair I am returning were too small.
Maria –
I love the shoe but the roller bar in the arch may prove to be too hard for my feet. I am trying to get used to it. I need motion control
and I have custom orthotics, so it is a challenge for my feet. Although I need motion control, I also need a softness, flexibility in the shoes.

Best runners around always fit’s well and has nice support on ankle. they are so comfortable, I wear them everyday

I’ve been wearing the 857 NB 2A for 20 years. It has been getting progressively wider and cheaper over that time. In the case of this iteration, it’s hard to draw the two sides of the shoe together because it’s gotten wide enough that to make it fit a narrow foot the instep has to buckle. It’s also short in the toe box. The most disconcerting thing about this iteration though is something that seems to be common to many athletic shoes these days. (I’ve bought and returned several brands lately for this reason.) The tongue is too short and too narrow. Consequently, when the two sides of the shoe come together under the bow knot, the laces cut into the foot and the sides of the shoe cut into the ankle bone as there is nothing to cushion them. The shoe also looks clunky and bulky. And if you don’t add your own orthotics, don’t expect any help from the shoe regarding arch support. I am saddened to see what NB did to a tried and true walking shoe.

Left shoe was wider than the right shoe. Returned for this reason. Kind of clunky, but I have big feet.

I thought these might work as a supportive walking shoe. I liked the leather and they looked well made. They seemed to have the right amount of cushion and stability but with my orthotics, my toes splayed outward and hit the sides of the toe box. I tried a 7 M because I wear orthotics, though I am a 6 1/2 M. Not roomy enough in the toe box for me. Sadly, they are going back.

I like these shoes and really appreciate New Balance for making motion control shoes, which are hard to find for those of us who suffer from severe overpronation. I have been looking for a motion control white sneaker I could wear to the gym, and this one is perfect. It fits a little snug and is a little bit stiff, but that’s how most motion control and stability shoes are made. This shoe is not uncomfortable and could loosen up over time.
I wear an 11 ww. If you can fit the Brooks Adreneline GTS 22 and New Balance 940v4, then you could probably wear the WW857 v3. The only thing I would like to see New Balance do is make their shoe strings longer.

the fit was almost perfect, I need narrow .

Felt like I was wearing combat boots. Too industrial feeling for my needs. But the shoe is great if that’s what you’re looking for.

Not as comfortable as the SAS mesh wide wide

These shoes look elegant in black. The leather upper adds a touch of sophistication. Plus, they are rain-proof unlike the ones made of full leather.

I always wear New Balance 990 in this size and fits perfectly. These shoes ran narrower and shorter. Would order larger size.
Pat –
Love the feel and fit of this shoe. New Balance shoes have always fit me well and they still come in narrow sizes, which most don’t anymore. I kept these shoes but I wish they came in other colors, or at least have some color on them. I wear a size 12 so white shoes are not my favorite look, especially since I have several pair of ASICS in beautiful colors (when they still made narrows). Sometimes you just have to not be picky about colors.

Hurt my toes so returned shoes to Zappos.

Felt a little tight on my foot. A 9E on other NB shoes was roomier and comfier.
Sandra –
I loved the look of the shoes but there was very little support on the bottom of my foot.

Too small — gonna try again. Have other NB shoes in size 10 that fit fine.. Not sure why these are different
Ms. –
The shoe was clunky. I have worn NB for over 20 years and this did not feel like a normal NB shoe. Usually you slide your foot in and it feels great. I purchased a half size larger based on reviews, it was still small and the wide was very narrow. They went back.

These were a 4E which is what I am currently wearing in my NB 847 purchased from Zappos. I think because they are leather (or faux leather) they don’t “give” as much for my wider foot. I don’t know what else has changed between the 847 and 857, but these 857s just don’t work for me.
Eileen –
It was a great fit and came soon after I ordered it.

The tongue is too short. It’s too bad that New Balance decided to save a few pennies by shortening the tongue on all its shoes. They are unbearable. Five steps convinced me it was a huge mistake.
Margaret –
Great shoe! Seems to be cut a a half size small. I may try the 10. There’s not much cushioning in this shoe at all. It’s a firm, rigid sole but very stable. I like this for my PF issues but I’ve also developed neuropathy and not sure this will work. As I said, I may try the 10.
