Pat –
Went hiking for two hours first time and they were very comfortable. No hot spots and great traction. Wish shoelaces were longer though.
Drew –
Pros: Color and design are cool. Midsole foam is squishy and comfortable. Roomy enough to accommodate my custom orthotics.
Cons: The fatal flaw of the shoe is shown in my photo: the tongue is not fully gusseted. This leads to a gap between the lacing eye stays and lacing speed hooks. This gap lets water, rain, and mud into the shoe.
The first day I wore the shoes there was a moderate rainstorm. I took a four mile walk through my city. By the time I got home, my toes were dry, but my ankles and heels were soaked.
There’s no amount of tightening the laces that will seal the gap between the upper and tongue, so these have got to go back. I really like these, but if a Gore-Tex lined shoe with a mid-top cut can’t keep me dry… Such a shame.

Nice color. Size runs small. I had to return due to it wasn’t the right type of shoe for what I needed it for.

The quality of this shoe was not up to the New Balance quality I have experienced. They fit weird over my ankle. Overall not comfortable.
Muddy –
These are nice shoes. Very comfortable. The toe box is a bit narrow. Returned them just because I did not like the feel of the higher shoe above my ankle.
Stacy –
I was expecting a little more cushioning than what comes in the shoe, can’t get the shoe fully laced. Runs narrow. I ordered a wide and doesn’t fit like a wide.
Sad –
Previous NB hikers we’re comfy and supportive. These are only cushy, but ill-fitting.

What a disappointment! Just because you have a perfect fit in one New Balance shoe, doesn’t mean you’ll be that size in THIS shoe! Gone are the days of NB sizing reliability! Order/return, order/return. Who has time for this nonsense? C’mon NB, get it together and DO BETTER!

Tried this shoe on twice and really wanted to like it. It’s uncomfortable, cramped, the top lacing area of the shoe isn’t coming together enough…the tounge is too poofy….The shoe is ugly. I wanted so badly to get a gortex shoe and Vibram soul so I could do hard-core hiking in the snow…..I can’t force myself to like it, unfortunately…..This shoe was a paid for replacement of a fresh foam runner that rubbed a hole in my heel within 4 months with just walking. So far not impressed with New Balance….I wish I could just get a refund.

I have a great deal of faith in New Balance – they make great shoes. The design and cushioning of this shoe are terrific. However, I found the fabric to be very stiff. This may have been resolved by breaking them in, but because they were a bit big, I decided to send them back.

I just needed a little more width

Not enough arch support for me.

Dayum, everyone is dogging on this adorable shoe!! What the heck guys? It is SO cute, has nice ankle support, is cushy as all get out, and why on Earth would you take this thing on a mud filled hike? It’s not a true hiking boot if the tongue lets water in. It’s for looks. Pickle Ball worthy….bouncing around on concrete floors at work, around town, casual camping, the cutest darned shoe I’ve owned in a while. Three separate 20-year olds told me this shoe was “sick.” I’m in. But seriously though, I have a narrow heel, a narrow foot, I need better support than most shoes ever give me, so I put my Aetrex metatarsal arch insoles in these puppies and I felt like I was walking on air. Happy air. Cute shoes, happy air, lovin’ life.

Unfortunately, it was not really a wide shoe so I am returning it.

Fits true to size, very comfortable and excellent support.

I walk daily 3 miles and it’s all on a gravel road. I’ve found that trail shoes work the best since my knees are not the best. So far these shoes have worked great!
Calyx –
I always wear New Balance sneakers in a size 9 (half a size up from my usual), B width. I had to exchange these because although the size 9 length was fine, the toe box felt too tight and cramped my feet. Not good for a hike. The 9W feels fine, and the heels aren’t loose, which I worried might happen with the wider width. I like the style. Wouldn’t say that they are THE most amazingly comfortable hiking shoes I’ve ever had on, but they are comfortable enough that I’m keeping them to go hiking in. Walked on the treadmill last night for 5 miles and they felt fine. That’s not the same as being out of doors, but it’s indicative.

I guess the fit was OK but they are not very comfortable. I think it’s the fabric/materials. They feel flimsy and somewhat harsh on the feet.
I do not choose to wear them. Attractive dust collectors . . .

I was looking for a sneaker hiker with ankle support so I was really excited to find these! Unfortunately the ankle support isn’t great, and its hard to snug these shoes up with the poofy tongue. I don’t like the extended sole on the heel. It seems to drag pretty catch.

I was hesitant to purchase these after reading the reviews, but find these sneakers very comfortable. Even though both my feet have been operated on, I never have foot problems wearing New Balance running sneakers size 7W so I decided to ignore the bad reviews. These fit as well as the 840, there is enough toe room and they are wide enough across the bridge of my feet. I don’t find the high collar uncomfortable.

Just half a size too large. Ordered half size smalller and it fit well.

They fit great but I like my Koka’s if I Have to wear for more than 8 hours.

Nice sneakers. A bit too narrow for a Wide.
Cathia –
Have same shoe in low cut not waterproof version and love it. This one was not comfortable around ankle for me. Otherwise a great supportive waterproof shoe. Will look for low cut waterproof version. These Hierros I think are all around sturdy winners. Cheers!
