I love these shoes. Have wide feet and find most hard to find for comfort..these are perfect for those with wide feet like mine. I take BART in the SF Bay Area and have to do a lot of walking. These fill the need to have a comfortable walking shoe that also looks professional in the work place.
Lolo –
I put them on and felt like I was putting my slippers on. My feet are picky, but they both agreed about this shoe! Comfortable!

This is not good for someone who needs a wide toe box. Great on the bunion, but my toes were squeezed together. There was also an angle/slope to the shoe, which caused by feet to angle inside, and my knees to sink towards each other. Pretty shoe, but not comfortable.

These sneaks are perfect for someone with high arches. They give great support, in just the right places! I just wish they came in a more interesting color.

Of all the New Balance shoes, these are the most comfortable, especially because they have enough space in the toe bed. I wear an orthotic that takes up a lot of shoe space, and in spite of that problem, these shoes are the most comfortable! I wish they would make these in brown. I cannot find a brown pair with the same kind of space in the toe bed, love these shoes for the comfort and size!

Very happy with these shoes. I’m a senior and walk about 2 miles almost every day. These shoes are comfortable, easy to break in and actually do help with with balance.

These are the only sneakers I can wear. I have been wearing them for years. They change the number, but not the sneaker so I can notice anyway. I wear these all the time and once my feet start hurting, I know I need a new pair. Great job New Balance! I have tried other sneakers and other brands and always come back to these.

A walking shoe made on a combination last: the heel is narrower, and the toe box is wider and deeper than usual. Clunky and dowdy, but offers superior fit and cushioning for feet that hurt. Keeps me walking.

This shoe was too short and the heels slipped up and down even with heavy socks. They were also very chunky looking. I have had several pair of New Balance walking shoes in the past…these did not measure up.

Excellent walking shoes! After my feet fell apart (heel spurs/hammer toes/plantar fascitis/lost fat pads on soles), finding comfortable walking shoes was more than a challenge. My podiatrist recommended New Balance. WW840 is made from a last designed with extra room in the toes and a stabilized heel cup. This shoe is lightly cushioned, comfortable and has room for orthotics. This is my 4th pair. My 10.5 D size is not easily available in most malls and when they are the price can be high! Finding WW840 on Zappos.com in my size & color is a huge bargain at this cost. I’ll be back to this site again as the new WW840 wears out.

I bought this pair as one of 15 pairs that I tried from Zappos! I started culinary school two months ago. I have a history of mortons neuromas (two neuromas on each foot), two surgeries on my left foot which left me with chronic forefoot pain, and I have a sesamoid fracture in my left foot (in the ball of my foot). So buying shoes that are comfortable, especially for standing and working long hours in a kitchen was a big deal. I bought these shoes in black (mandatory for culinary school), wide. Out of the 15 shoes that I tried, these are the big winners. My orthotics fit well. Cushioning is the most important thing for my troubled feet and this is the best. I have been wearing New Balance 990’s for years, but with pain. The WW840 has been so great for me at school that I am getting a pair to wear at home. I will get white this time. As for style, they are fine in a professional kitchen. But they are not cute or stylish at all. I am hoping that the white will be better looking but I probably will not wear them outside of my home. I wish New Balance had a few more color options for these! They would become my new go to shoes for wearing anywhere! I am still searching for my everywhere shoes that are stylish!

I use these shoes with custom orthotics, so I can’t give good information to anyone who will wear them as is. My measured foot size is either 8-8 , but to accommodate the orthotic in this shoe, I use a size 9 D. I have bunion deformity on the right foot. I have arthritis, chronic achilles tendonitis, and my gait is over-everted (that’s the opposite of pronation–I walk on the outsides of the soles). Anyway…I have these substantial orthotics, and in these shoes, D-width and 1 sizes above my measured foot, I get the best combination of support and comfort I’ve had since my feet started going bad.

These shoes were so unattractive when I took them out of the box I didn’t even try them on. I guess I ordered the wrong thing. Will try another NB style. they are white leather and look like some sort of orthopedic shoe. Not my style.

I have been wearing this style for several years. They were recommended by my podiatrist and I have found them to be the best for me for every day wear. He also recommended orthotics to wear with them and the combination has helped my back and foot pain tremendously!
Cmb –
I have extra wide feet with a high instep. The roomy toe box on this shoe makes ALL the difference. Very firm, sturdy sole and sides. I’m difficult to fit. This is the best NB shoe I’ve tried.
Nancy K –
Very comfortable sneakers! I have a wife foot with very high arch, and these sneaks give me lots of room under the laces and in the toe box area. No break in needed!
Penny A –
This shoe is perfect for the Treadmill and my feet felt so comfortable from first time put on no problems. I had to order them a half a size larger as running short for me. Feel great so happy this is exactly the kind of shoe I need and it has arch support!

I usually purchase the more expensive new balance 928, and decided to give these a try. They work very well, true to size and comfortable.

I have been wearing 928 2E 10.5 for the last 10 years. (Or for a long time) recently NB changed the style and they no longer fit across the metatarsal they were too tight. I bought a 928v2 10.5 4E they they still didn’t fit. This pair of WW840 2E 11 (I ordered a 10.5 and 11 and the 11 2E fit perfectly) fits the closest to the old style 928 and felt comfortable when I first put them on, I have my own orthodics and they fit no problem. The heel also fit, no slipping, plenty deep. The reason I am sending them back is they have no arch support. even with my orthodics they tired my feet after about 15 minutes. I am still looking for a shoe that fits and does everything the old 928 did.

Love the shoe! Super comfortable but runs big. I have to return for a half size smaller.

I have always worn a 9.5 in NB but these were too short. They were also boxy and felt clunky on my feet. Had to return them.
Artsy –
Six returns on orders with leather ankle boots. New Balance won for top comfort, support for my multiple foot issues. I stayed away from this manufacturer for many years due to discomfort over need to replace constantly with hard use. One the other hand, I gave it another try with this design (looks similar to Hoka but slimmer designed by toes box) and it felt pretty darn good. Fit is snug for now and can’t wear overly thick socks with it but this all leather sneaker will probably stretch a over time. I chose a solid black color with unnoticeable black logo on exterior inside part of the shoe (logos are not allowed for job). I bought my regular size 7 1/2 wide and it’s a good fit. My foot is slightly wider at toes and narrower at heels. Due to the design of lacing, the extra hole really keeps my heel in better without slippage. The padding also minimizes knee pain as I rise and walk. Confident that this shoe will provide walking stability with my balance issues, and joint pain in foot, knees, and back pain when I get outside with it. It’s a modern looking sneaker and not orthopedic or look like an “old lady” shoe. This is a super stylish sensible choice that my feet will thank me.

I’m so disappointed that New Balance discontinued the 840s and replaced them with the fresh foam. While these are light and at first seemed extremely comfortable, after wearing them daily for a week my left hip started aching and I found the soles started compressing. I long for the days when an expensive pair of shoes had soles that lasted more than a few weeks. I will be forced to explore other brands as New Balance no longer seems to be making the great shoes they once did.
Mary –
Fit great, look great, very comfortable. Only negative was that the shoe laces proved to be too short. Purchased a pair of 60″ lavender laces as replacement.
JennaG –
The 9.5EE in white/purple is definitely shorter and tighter than my previous NB 840s (840v5 and 840G4) in the same size. The shape feels the same, though, so I’ll order a size up and try again.
