the shoe is rather clunky and the seam where the fabric meets the rubber at the toe created a weird friction point. I ordered the 7W. These are going back.

I really wanted to love these, but they fit weird, I’m always a 7.5 wide in NB due to bunions (thanks a lot pregnancy!), but they were huge, and they look big and clunky. I think if they fit better, they’d be comfortable, but they looked like shoes my grandma would wear.

I have issues getting sneakers, and usually wear Brooks but they keep changing theirs yearly! (and then they don’t work anymore). I liked this version better than the leather, thinking it would be easier to tighten on my narrow feet. But even the 2A feels loose around the ankles. The shoe also comes up higher around the ankle than I like and it cuts in. I also wish these were made with a 10MM drop instead of 12. The 12 puts too much pressure on the heels and feels clunky when I walk.

Very pleased with these sneakers. Needed them to rotate with one other pair, for 5 day a week group fitness exercise. I have come to believe I have to spend over $100 to get a pair that works for me. I have many different foot issues (bunions on the inside and outside of both feet, high instep, thin heel and need cushioning), so finding proper fitting and comfortable shoes is ALWAYS a challenge. Happy with these overall, but I will say the part of the shoe that comes up to ankle is a tiny bit high and can rub if socks not pulled up. Otherwise, these are a win for me.

I love these shoes. Finally a shoe that really fits my foot! Most shoes don’t fit me because they get too narrow for my toes. If that is your problem these are the shoes for you! I got the 2E because i usually wear mens wide, I actually considered sending these back for a narrower shoe, that has never ever happened. I decided to keep them and decide if my next pair might be narrower or if my toes rejoice in the freedom. These shoes are well padded around the ankle, and breathable so I think they are going to be great for me.

Beautiful shoes fit well, a little clunky but I thinkk that is because the width is wide.

The width of the toe bed in this shoe is amazing. The best. So comfy. The roomy toe bed doesn’t cut off my last 3 toes. It’s too bad it’s a hard core stability shoe. Because of the fabulous, roomy toe bed, I tried to walk in this shoe in small doses over a couple of days. Now my knees hurt and hips are messed up. Why can’t anyone make a truly wide shoe that’s neutral? Not all people who have wide feet need rigid stability shoes.
While the shoes look bulky, I would say for being a truly wide shoe, they look really good compared to what’s in the market.

I purchased this shoe for arch support, cushioning and stability. The shoe does not have arch support, so I had to insert my orthotics for this. The shoe is very stiff and actually , I have pain in my feet when I go for my daily walks. I am very disappointed with this shoe. I can not return them because I did not experience pain until I went for a 2 mile walk. My New Balance shoes at half the price are so much more comfortable. I would not recommend these shoes!

I would have overlooked the fact that the shoe looks as if made out of plastic but after walking in them realized that the top of the right shoe rubbed on my foot and the arch was just a bit short.

Love this shoe but whoever said it runs large is wrong – if anything it runs true to size or even slightly small. My recommendation is to order 1/2 size up. That said, they are comfortable and look good! Wish I could keep them but I ordered the wrong size and now they are out of stock in the size I need 🙁

Due to arthritis in my toes and pain in the ball of my foot, my doctor recommended New Balance 1540v3. She said the roll bar construction will help alleviate the pain. To compare I purchased the 1540 and this NB 847, which also has the rollbar. The look and fit are very similar. Although I ordered both in the same size (5.5 W) the 847 fit much roomier in length and width and actually felt too big. Also, the sides next to the ankle are higher than the 1540 which I found to cause an uncomfortable rubbing. Some might find the higher sides more supportive, but after comparing the two, for me the 1540 was more comfortable, with plenty of support.

I’ve worn New Balance 847 for years but these shoes are not very good looking. I like their leather toe like they’ve had for years. Because of the new toe look, they seem tighter and don’t feel as comfortable.

Appalling lack of quality workmanship. Could not get the laces through the punch holes – too small. The inside tongue had extra material inside that should have been trimmed. The tongue also had shredded seams on the side. The top of the front of shoes where the quilted design is – crumples up when you flex. Overall – terrible design and cheap labor defects. Who’s minding the store?

If you have problem flat feet, these may be the shoes for you. I’ve been dealing with plantar fasciitis and my feet felt happy as soon as I tried them on. I did replace the shoes’ insoles with my custom made orthotics and I am a happy woman now. I’ve returned over 20 pairs of sneakers in the last month, that should tell you how problematic my feet are. The shoes are true to size and have a wide toe box. Thank you New Balance!

I had originally bought a size 7 and it was vaery small. I normally wear a size 6 1/2 or 7 size shoe. I bought the size 8 and it fit perfect like a size 7 but it was a size 8. I am now waiting for my refund on my oriinal order.

I am a walker, not a runner, but went to a running store a few years ago to get properly fitted for a walking shoe because I kept getting blisters. They put me in a NB shoe a whole size bigger than I normally wear and showed me how to lace them using the extra hole at the top of the shoe to “cinch” the heel. Since then, I never had another blister and have been through at least 3 pairs. The first time I put this newest pair on with the “roll bar feature” I walked 2.7 miles with no problem. The second day I walked 4.2 miles with no problems on pavement and uneven gravel. No break in period required. I walk up to 8 miles at a time. Also, yesterday I stepped into a small pothole I did not see which could have been an ankle twister but was not. I don’t know if it was luck or the rollbar or both that kept my foot aligned.

I once wore the 847 style and liked it. Too much mesh in the recent style changes has reduced their support. I do not like the mesh over the toes in the 847v4 because I raise my big toes with every step and will wear holes in the mesh.
Helen –
These 847v4 size 9.5 fit a half size smaller and the toe box is narrower than my 847v3 pair. I had to return them for a size 10. I am keeping them. They fit OK going up a half size. The 847v4 have a narrower toe box and I hate that NewBalance made the top of the toe box mesh instead of leather like the 847v3’s. You cannot wipe them off like the leather tops. Why New Balance cannot leave a good thing alone I will never understand. I own a pair of black 847’s from 2014 in size 9 that are great fitting. They have a nice wide toe box, leather top, great fit and great arch support. Because I choose black I have worn them very little so they are like new so it is not just that they are well broken in. I wish New Balance would be consistant with their quality, styling, and sizing. They should have left a good thing alone. It is very frustrating having to return shoes because the styling and sizing changes every year.

This shoe has the best sole I have ever tried. The shape of this shoe is perfect for my foot, wide in the toe box and narrow in the heel without looking like a duck’s shoe. It’s a beautiful shoe, which I ordered and received in black. The only issue is the mesh. I’m 62 years old and need more stability. The upper portion of the shoe, namely the mesh, provides no support to keep my foot stable. I ordered this shoe for step aerobics and walking on the treadmill but there’s no lateral support. I need a leather shoe and wish New Balance would offer this same exact shoe in leather. If you don’t have an issue with stability, you will love this shoe! I will have to return this shoe and so the search for a shoe like this in leather resumes. It’s been a nightmare trying to find a shoe to meet my needs, wide toe box, narrow heel, excellent sole for plantar fascittis, and lateral support to stability.

This sneaker is fabulous. It is so cushiony on the inside and the toe box is nice a roomy so your toes are not scrunched together. No slipping on the heel when walking. Overall a great shoe. Ordered it in black but for some reason they were shorter and the toe box was not as roomy had to return it.

I require a motion control shoe and this one is definitely the one for me. Have tried other styles but always return to the 847.
Would like to see it offered in some other colors since I’ve already had one or two of each of the existing colors.

This is my third pair of this style. One in every color. It supports me better than any shoe I have owned. I have had heel spurs and these are the best for that, that I have found.

I have worn NB 990 for years but decided to try this show for two reasons. First I wanted a blue shoe. Second I wanted a lighter weight shoe yet still have good support.
I got Both in this shoe! Love everything about it.

I have returned these. I usually get New Balance shoes sized 10 1/2 AA that fit very well. These were at least a half size too short and also somewhat narrower than usual.
Dee –
My podiatrist recommended these because he uses them! The mesh top allows room for my toes and the stiffer sole helps to eliminate pain when I walk! I ordered a wider width and half size larger than my regular shoes. They were excellent when I tried them on and took a walk!
